Community Support
In 2003, Monument Crisis Center initiated an after-school tutoring program for children between the ages of 5 through 12. The idea was sparked from a staff member who noticed the need for the children in our community to have a safe space where they could receive homework assistance and mentorship from high school and college students in the area.
Based on the need, a formal tutoring program was created. The program has grown to serve over 50 students in grades 1-12. Now operating under a hybrid model, the program prioritizes enrichment, academic success, mentorship, and fun!
Youth Programs are held every Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon during the school year. Teens from local high schools such as De La Salle, Carondelet, Concord High, and Las Lomas volunteer as tutors to help the children in our community with homework.
The tutoring program has proven to be beneficial for everyone involved; the children receive assistance with their homework and build relationships with positive role models, while the teens learn about responsibility and about the needs of their community in their volunteer role.
After School Cafe
Our tutoring program assists students in grades 1st-5th with their homework, provides access to educational activities, and gives students a safe space to learn in.
Applications for students for the After School Café are currently closed. Families must be enrolled in Monument Crisis Center services to attend Youth Enrichment programs.

High School & Beyond
High School and Beyond is a unique college and career counseling program for 9-12 graders.
The program provides at-risk youth with one-on-one mentorship and guidance to put them on track for a post-high school plan that suits their interests.
Our goal is that, under our guidance, students will leave high school with a well-identified plan for the future, a deeper sense of self, a thorough understanding of their interests, assistance in pursuing job interests, and the ability to prioritize interests and goals.
Summer Camp
Each summer, Monument Crisis Center runs a summer camp for children in grades 1-8.
These programs allow youths to experience the world around them in a safe and fun environment, in addition to learning new skills with older peer role models.
Camp activities include field trips, games in the park, visits to East Bay Regional Parks, and a variety of additional activities.
In a neighborhood with very few parks and even fewer yards, this program provides the children with a safe environment to play and learn.
Annual Back-To-School Backpack Distribution
MCC believes that there should not be a price tag on education and all children deserve the opportunity to further their education. In addition to our after school program, all of our client families can register their K – 12 children for a new backpack filled with all the supplies they need to succeed.
Our Annual Backpack Day is a fun and anticipated event for our families, where children can choose their own backpack to kick off the school year. Our Back-To-School Backpack Distribution provides over 1,500 backpacks filled with school supplies every year to low income children in need across Contra Costa County.
41.82% of families at Monument Crisis Center have at least 1 child in their household
33.78% of individuals at Monument Crisis Center are children under 18
