Seniors Programs Senior Moments | Brown Bag |
|
Senior MomentsIn March 2007 five senior participants and five senior volunteers came to the Monument Crisis Center to pick up and help distribute food from the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano’s Brown Bag program for clients over 55 years of age. They stayed to chat and formed the first gathering of what would eventually become Senior Moments. Today, Senior Moments is a semimonthly gathering with an average of 75 senior participants. Each gathering is brimming with refreshments, music, chatter, and most beloved: Bingo! After the bingo social is over, each senior receives a bag of nutritious food. Participants are seniors or special needs adults on limited incomes; most rely on the Center as their only social outlet, but the festivities are enjoyed by participants and volunteers alike! Goals:Transcend language barriers with bi-lingual bingo and activitiesProvide a lively and interactive environment for socializationEducate seniors on topics such as health, community resources, and other senior-specific needsTo foster hope, friendship and camaraderie in the community. How you can help:Volunteer at Senior Moments: help host, set-up/clean, socialize, and provide refreshments and entertainment. Donate pastries or refreshments. Our seniors love homemade treats!Donate bingo or raffle prizes (new kitchenware, appliances, house-hold items, gift-cards, etc).

Brown BagThe Brown Bag program is a free USDA program directly related to the Food Bank, we receive some produce and non-perishables on pallets every first and third Thursday of the month, the food is set up on tables by volunteers the previous day so that senior volunteers the next day can pack the food into “brown bags.”
