Food Distribution

The food program at the Monument Crisis Center started August 19, 2003 in order to help the community after the closing of Cambridge Crisis Center. The Monument Crisis Center’s food program was established with the help of Carondelet High School, The Safeway Foundation, Soroptomist International of Pleasant Hill, and Salvation Army. Households receive one allotment of food per month, enough food to last 3-4 days. On the first day of food distribution there were 84 families. Today, there are between 80-120 families at each distribution and over 4,500 families are signed up for our food program. The Monument Crisis Center is open for food distribution five times a week. Our food program relies on monetary and food donations from the community.  The food program purchases about 10,000 pounds of food every week from the food bank and receives about 2,300 pounds of food through private donors, yet we must seek other sources to sustain our increasing number of clientele.
